Section 62 Concluding Meetings

 

A : Basic expressions

- make a decision = come to a decision = arrive at a decision → reach a conclusion → We need to come to a decision by today.

- summarize = recap → To summarize, Some up, In short, In brief, In a nutshell.

- run out of time → We are running out of time tomake a final decision.

- vote on ~ → Let's put it to a vote. majority vote(다수결) unanimous vote(만장일치) → The budget passed by a unanimous vote.

               → Those in favor, rise your hand.

- set the time [date] → let's set [fix] a date for the next meeting.

- participation → Thanks for your participation.

B : Key sentences

- It's the best way to ~ .

- Ultimately, we have no choice [option] but to ~ .

- The only solution [answer] is to ~ . [ In brief / In conclusion 간단히 말해서/ 결론적으로 ]

- We finally reached the conclusion that ~ . [ To sum up / To conclude 요약하면/결론적으로 ]

- Before we close, let me just [ summarize the main points. ] [ recap what I said ]

- Finally, may I [ remind you / go over ] some of the main points we've considered?

- We'll have to defer [postpone] the decision for another time.

- We have already run out of time.

- I declare the meeting is closed.

C : Key Dialog

- It's time to make a decision. → Okay. Let me put all the ideas together.

- We finally reached the conclusion. → Thank you for your participation.

- Could you summarize the main points? → To sum up, we are going to expand our business in China this year.

- I'm afraid to say that we've run out of time. → We'll have to postpone the decision for another time.

- It's time to vote on each topic. → Okay, Those in favor, please raise your hand.

- It's almost time to finish up the meeting. → That's right. Can we set the time for the next meeting?

- I declare the meeting is closed. → Thank you all for attending the meeting.

D : Office Talk

- We'll have to defer the decision for another time. → I think it doesn't take too long to vote on each topic.

- Well, we have already run out of time. → Then we need to set the time, date, and place for the next meeting.

- What about the following Friday at the same time and place? → That's good. Now I declare the meeting is closed. Thank you all for your 

  participation.

E : Further Study

- Let's decide by majority [vote] on this issue.

- Okay, let those in favor show their hands.

- No, this has to be a unanimous decision.

- No, let's vote by secret ballot.
