Section 25 Unexpected Problems

 

A : Basic expressions

- speak louder → speak louder[up], please.

- hardly → I can hardly hear you. = I have a hard time hearing.

- static → There's some static.

- be cut off → I was cut off. = I got disconnected.

- run out of batteries → "be about to부정사“ → It's about to run out of batteries.

- break up

- be crossed → The line are crossed[mixed]

B : Key sentences

- There's some static.

- I'm running out of the batteries.

- The lines are crossed. → I'll call you right back.

- It keeps breaking up. → May I give you a call later?

C : Key Dialog

- I can hardly hear you. → I'll speak a little louder.

- It's very noisy out there. → I'll call you right back.

- The lines are crossed. → You can give a call later then.

- There is a lot of static. → Really? Let me use another phone.

- Excuse me. There's a call coming in. → That's okay. May I give your call later?

- It's about to run out of my batteries. → Excuse me ? It's breaking up.

- I'm not sure why it was cut off. → I think you're in the no-service area.

D : Office Talk

- Excuse me. I can hardly hear you. Can you speak a little louder?

→ I see. Can you hear me now? → Not really. It's very noisy out there.

- Okay. I will move to another place and call you back.

→ That's a good idea. I'll wait for your call then.

E : Further Study

- I'd better go. → Okay, talk to you later.

- I have to go back to the office. → Okay, I'll call you next week.

- I gotta go now. Talk to you later. → All right. We can talk again another time.

- I'll let you go now. → Have a nice day.

- I have to hang up now. → Goodbye.
